According to numerous tips we received this afternoon, an 8-year old Hunters Point girl was mauled by a dog in a vicious attack across from the Riverview restaurant on Center Boulevard a month ago. Per the mother’s posting on Facebook today:
“The dog is a beige pitbull-labrador mix. It ripped half of her mouth off and made deep wound in her temple. She had forty stitches just on her mouth. After the accident, the owner was trying to walk away but was stopped by people at scene. Looks like the dog is still in the Long Island City. We are not sure if the dog is vaccinated and do not have rabies. The owner is unreachable.”
The accompanying pictures of the 8-year old girl are horrifying, and there has been little luck with the police. If you recognize the person in the photo above, please contact us at editor@lictalk.com, and we will pass on the information to the mother. We’ll have more on this story as it develops.

October 2, 2015 at 8:57 amWhy was this dog no immediately put down?! What is the protocol for this crime/attack? And what of the owner who almost ran and got away!

October 19, 2015 at 12:38 pmThe law states that the dog needs to be kept alive for a week (or 10 days, I forget) to make sure it is not rabid. It needs to be observed in a facility at that time. Once the time passes, and no signs of rabies are shown, the dog can be put down. If signs of rabies appear, they give you a series of rabies boosters, which both hurt and leave you drained.

October 20, 2015 at 12:36 amYou don’t just blame the dog.. Sorry but kids are obnoxious wise asses and you don’t know the circumstances to this “bite”. My child would never be allowed near someone else’s dog in the streets and I highly doubt the dog just went out of control in the street leashed.

October 2, 2015 at 9:40 amRecently Jimmy Van Bramer increased penalties for hit-and-run drivers who fled the scene of an accident. Let’s petition and ask that he do the same for dog-owners who flee the scene of a dog biting. It just makes sense.

October 2, 2015 at 9:42 am..there has been little luck with the Police? I’m not understanding this statement.
Are they not giving out information, are they not looking into the event, or have they not been able to find the person.
Either way, if a dog does this…they cant be allowed to remain in the community.

October 2, 2015 at 9:46 amThese types of dogs (large/aggressive) should be MUZZLED at all times. What a disgrace.

October 2, 2015 at 11:05 amseems like our 110th precinct community liaison could help us out with this. As a parent of two kids its scary to think that the dog and owner are still out there and no one notifies us of this danger.

October 2, 2015 at 12:00 pmI can’t imagine that the police would not investigate this story. Something is fishy here. More details please.

October 4, 2015 at 7:26 amThere was someone very aggressively posting on the facebook dog group yesterday against the mother with no actual real information. It seemed to me that person knows this dog owner or is posting/covering up for her. (or she is just crazy)

October 4, 2015 at 9:28 amWhat could you say to defend the woman or the dog? The baby had it coming? The baby deserved it? The baby/child was probably doing things children do… And the dog reacted and hurt the child. Therefore… Dog has to go. Sorry.

October 20, 2015 at 12:30 amI don’t know the circumstances of what led to a bite. I don’t know if the kid was taunting the dog which a lot of kids do in the streets ( go up to dogs without permission) it’s the owner that has to be responsible for their dog just as the mother should be responsible for their kid. I’ve had mothers in the street tell their kid to go up to my dog without even asking me.. I’ve had to tell the kids myself not to come close.. Even though she was ok, I wouldn’t want any stranger near my dogs… My dogs are good with MY family. The labeling of the “breed” is wrong. Any dog to the media is deemed a pitbull when that is FARRR From the truth.. This is in no criteria a pit bull. Any “pitbull” I have ever come across has been very well behaved and great with people. I love how the media writes these stories. It’s a joke

October 20, 2015 at 10:43 amI called local police and they were useless and basically did not care one bit – seems they are fine with the fact that the owner walked away and the dog is still out there – obviously being in such a hot spot for crime they are too busy to deal with the matter

November 4, 2015 at 12:17 pmDog advocacy groups are the new NRA of urban areas. Sensible rules like no pitbulls or dog parks near large groups of kids would make some sense… but they fight it all the way until you have dog shit everywhere and kids getting mauled. And then they still keep on fighting.
