2012 was a tough year. I was only able to achieve double-digit returns in the multi-billion dollar hedge fund I run, and thanks to the Facebook IPO debacle, I was not able to fob off any of the overpriced companies in my venture cap portfolio on the public. Then to top it all off, I had to make an excruciating year end decision as to where to spend the holidays. Since shortly after the Mayflower landed, the whole extended family has traditionally decamped to Lyford Cay for the latter half of December. Yet I really want to hang and console my close, recently divorced friends like Heidi, Katy, and Miranda in Punta Del Este. Therefore, in order to satisfy all constituencies, I have decided to split the difference and spend Christmas with mummy et al, and then jet south for New Years. Thus I will be unable to keep you apprised of all doings in LIC for the next two weeks, not that I expect anything to happen in my absence.
Oh that’s right, this website isn’t about me, it’s about you dear readers, and my desire to satisfy your craving for local news, gossip, and erotica. In an attempt to keep you occupied with aforementioned desires, I leave you with one final and special send-off. Conveniently, the New York Times has decided to feature Queens in their weekly “36 Hours” column, and because the author lives in Queens he knows that this is a paltry amount of time to dedicate to the most diverse borough in the world, and wisely augments it with an additional offline piece. Now I could give the article my usual once over and analyze, critique, and/or praise the information in it, but in essence I would be wasting your time, like I am now, because it is chock full of great Queens ideas, including a few in LIC. So enjoy your holiday, whatever and wherever it may be, and here’s hoping that your 2013 is a great one. See you in the New Year!

December 21, 2012 at 1:42 pmWow, the 36 Hours writer just skewers Manhattan and Brooklyn in the opening paragraph!

December 21, 2012 at 8:32 pmYeah, Brooklyn is so last decade in terms of being cutting edge, with the new arena and a professional basketball team as confirmation, and Manhattan is a 20th century relic. Queens is the new, new thing, though I’m not sure where LIC fits in that regard.
