Good Friday: before I retired it was the only day that the stock markets were closed and the bond markets were open. Nowadays everyone gets it off, so how does one use the time if they’re staying in town? My first thought is that of everyone’s favorite LIC pastime: looking at apartments. But if you are going to do so, don’t bother stopping at Gantry Park Landing, because they are sold out. On the other hand, TF Cornerstone’s latest building on Center Boulevard started leasing today. Does that really qualify as news? Well they did issue a press release which several industry rags gobbled up like they were coming off SlimFast.1 It contained all the usual real estate buzzword hype, and you can read one of the regurgitations at the link below. What it didn’t contain, and no one mentioned, is that the 584 units will be the last new market rate apartments on the waterfront for a very long time. I expect them to move briskly, and after they do for rents to start creeping up on Center Boulevard once again.
Dayenu: the Hebrew saying invoked on Passover which means “That alone would have been enough!” Which is exactly how I feel about Queens Beer Week. In my mind, that’s all the leisure I would need to sop up a long weekend. But for the designated (Big Wheel) drivers, there is also the Easter Egg Hunt we mentioned last week, which occurs at Gantry Park on Saturday.
Shea Stadium: opened fifty years ago today. In honor of that anniversary the NY Mets are rolling back ticket prices tomorrow, Saturday, and Sunday. In order to take advantage of the heavy discounts, you must purchase the tickets on the link below. As an added kicker, the Mets are above .500 for the first time since last April! So like the Spring, bask in the glory before it ends.
Last TF Cornerstone Building Now Renting – “Developers Tom and Fred Elghanayant paid $85 million for the (whole, all 7 buildings) site about a decade ago.”
Gantry Park Landing Fully Leased – all 199 units
Bottoms Up! Queens Beer Week Starts Friday – Dayenu!
