The shabby-looking, gentrification-refuting Butcher Deli on Vernon Boulevard has finally shuttered. The windows of this perpetually opened establishment are darkened, the awning has been taken off, and there are two handwritten “Closed” signs on the door. A call to their telephone number triggers a message from Verizon that the line is no longer in use.
The extremely well-situated storefront, sandwiched between the Vernon Boulevard Eyesore of a construction project and the E&I Deli, also contained the “Hookah Bar” upstairs. Which allegedly was mainly used as a place to crack open beers purchased downstairs. Whether the closure came because of a lease rollover, bankruptcy, or other, will probably remain a mystery.
The million-dollar question is ‘What comes next?’ to this prime, heavily trafficked retail site.
