CAPITALISM fills the void as the wave of change continues in Long Island City. No sooner had Chinese take-out New City Kitchen closed and morphed into The Sandwich King, that we hear from an inside source that a Chinese restaurant will be coming into the corner location at 46-18 Vernon Boulevard formerly occupied by the red-sauce and pizza joint Junior’s Cafe. Construction is moving rapidly according to the source.
Will it be spicy Hunan or Szechuan, or maybe old-fashioned Cantonese? Probably a mix of all three, but hopefully no further mingling like throwing in sushi and/or a little pad thai – enough with the fusion.
Anyway just like Chinatown subsumed most of Little Italy by the end of the 20th century, might this eventually occur in LIC? Who knows, but soon we will regain dumplings, egg rolls, and spare ribs and harmony will be restored in our little neighborhood.
//ONE doesn’t need a source to see that construction is also moving along rapidly at Argentinian restaurant-to-be ‘R40,’ as there’s a crew onsite everyday…
