A controversial dog run that was first advocated for here in these pages almost two years ago, has finally begun construction. Scaffolding has been placed around the parklet1 between the Queens West Field and PS/IS 78. The much needed dog run will take up the western half of the area, and trees and open space will replace the unused picnic tables.
//$5 million handle for a condo in Queens? I spoke with Silvette Julian, the broker of the condo in The View listed for $5.4 million, and she confirmed that there is an accepted offer on what would be the most expensive residential sale in Queens. Now the only question is it over or under $5 million…
//Around the corner from the dog run and perfectly synched with nice Spring weather expected, the LIC Flea will be having their 2015 opening this weekend. New vendors, old vendors, and something about an all-Queens beer garden – that last being all you need to know.
//Finally, participatory budgeting comes to Western Queens next week. So I attended the initial meeting six months ago, looked at all the items on the ballot today, and for the first time ever I came to the conclusion there might be a good reason why we delegate certain tasks to elected leaders.
Nevertheless, in eyeballing the choices, if you live in Hunters Point and have kids, you might want to take the time to vote for the $75,000 technology upgrades for PS 78. Heck, you did pay for it. The voting booth is in the PS/IS 78 Middle School on 5th Street (next to the dog run and kitty corner to the Flea!) and the date is Tuesday, April 14 between 6-9pm.
