FALL RESTAURANT UPDATES IN LONG ISLAND CITY

Upon reading in The Court Square Blog that yet another artisanal pizza restaurant named Luzzo’s will be opening in Court Square not too far away from the newly opened Levante’s – whose owners were at one time in partnership with those of Luzzo’s, I pondered ‘What non-pizza restaurants are on the horizon locally?’

One that has already been open for a year, but whose NYT review escaped my notice in late August is Sami’s Kabab House on Crescent Street.  Of course my missing it may have to do with the Times errantly locating it in Astoria – no!  It specializes in Afghan cuisine, inclusing many vegetarian dishes, and is BYOB.

Still caught in the regulatory vice is Mothership Meat Company in Dutch Kills according to its latest Facebook post dated August 18.  On the other hand the website for Fifth Hammer Brewery is now indicating an opening for their taproom in early October, as they received the approval to start brewing and selling wholesale about two weeks ago.

Also a call to Black Star Bakery on 50th Avenue yields the hope that they will open in the next week or two as well.

Piatto Wood Fire Pizza and Vernon Grille are probably wrestling with authorities too, though by the looks of them should be open by year’s end.  The Sports Bar that was supposed to move into Tutti Matti on Vernon (fka Testaccio) I’ve heard fell through, and there is a ‘Store Available’ sign out front.

Finally, coming full circle, we hear that an Indian restaurant may be coming soon to Vernon Boulevard near the subway stop that will be BYOB.  What are you hearing?

Glad to see Hunters Point might finally be getting its own Indian restaurant instead of another burger or pizza place. For the time being the Indian cart on 5th Street by Duane Reade suffices.
