One last blast of cold for the final weekend of February. That’s the news. Oh yeah, there’s other real-estate-y stuff like raw land and industrial buildings for sale, and a peek at some tower that might become the tallest in LIC, but I’d rather focus on leisure. And since the 7-train is down this weekend and it feels like Scandinavia, why not check out the NYT-mentioned (after LICtalk did) Mr. Nilsson’ nordic restaurant on Jackson? Or a beer week event featuring any and all of our local breweries. Or just take home a growler or three and stay inside – that’s a good plan too.
//I’d be remiss in not mentioning the passing of Bill Bylewski, the founder and head of “Friends of Gantry.” Though I did not know Bill, I would always get the organizations meeting and clean-up notices, and would occasionally write them up. Anyone who takes the initiative to start an altruistic project like his is a good man, and anyone who guides it with his own blood, sweat, and dirt for 17 years even more so. Long Island City is a better place for his efforts, and one of his legacies is that his organization endures and is bigger than ever, but he will be missed.
