FREE Shakespeare! No it’s not a protest movement, but literally a free fully-casted play on the waterfront. Two actually, no make that four if you count identical shows the following night at Socrates Sculpture Park. This Saturday and Sunday and next, at 7pm on Saturday at the field on Gantry Plaza State Park and 5pm on Sunday at Socrates, the Hip-to-Hip Theatre Company will perform Measure For Measure and Henry IV. Check the schedule below for full information and here are my earlier thoughts on this great program.
//FREE Yoga, free movies, so much going on in LIC this week. Alas my two week “residency” at Les Caves du Roy is in mid stride and I’ll be missing Anne Bancroft taming the shrew in ‘The Graduate’ tonight on the oval. The following morning The Yoga Room will be holding a free yoga session by the Oval and will continue to do so every Saturday in August from 10am – 11am.
//READING the local and non-local articles in the last week on the Water’s Edge developer announcement was like watching lambs to the slaughter. Having received the press release myself, I can tell you that every single one was mostly a cutting and pasting job of the PR’s firm’s gushing. No wonder the mainstream press is losing steam in the 21st Century. For a contrast, check out Vice magazine’s cutting interview entitled “What the L Train Shutdown Means for Queens.”
What the L Train Shutdown Means for Queens - “officials at the MTA have insisted that one of the most viable alternatives for thousands of L train passengers will be to take the nearby G train north to Court Square …There’s only one problem: Queens”
Timeless, First Rate and Free: Outdoor Shakespeare – “A cool summer evening, a tree-lined park and the words of William Shakespeare make for a memorable combination”
Powerhouse Gym Muscles into 10K SF For First LIC Facility – according to Arnold, “The best activities for your health are pumping and humping.”
Starbucks on Jackson Avenue to Open August 11 - triple espresso then right over to Powerhouse
‘Levante’ Opens on Jackson - pizza and outdoor space
