In a follow-up to last week’s Berlin playground snippet on selbstständigkeit, the need to inculcate self-sufficiency in kids, I laughed very hard at a recent Simpson’s episode transcribed in Lenore Skenazy’s website Free Range Kids. Especially because it’s probably funnier and more biting in the reading of it:
In the end of “Orange Is The New Yellow,” The Simpsons’ 27th season finale, there’s a prison riot and a tornado. Marge is in the cooler because Martin’s overzealous mother spotted Bart playing—non-destructively even—in the park without parental supervision.
Best line of the night seems to have been this:
“A mother at the park saw something she disapproved of and, luckily for your son, she overreacted.”
No need to say more, you know where I stand on this topic. Plus in reality, The Simpson’s wouldn’t be around for 27 seasons if they weren’t spot on.
//According to a press release from World Wide Group, a big developer with two recently completed buildings just north of the bridge, one might assume rental activity is robust in the Queens/Queensboro Plaza area. QLIC, their larger building with 421 units, is 90% leased after 10 months. Luna, with 124 units, is 30% leased after move-ins began on June 1 (figure 5-6 weeks of availability so far). Which begs the question “At what price?” Or as is the vogue today, for what concessions – one month’s rent, two? If anyone knows, please do tell.
