And by break, I mean there really isn’t any. As in the news is taking a rest, siesta, maybe even a hiatus. Oh sure, I could write about something very mundane or stir up a trivial controversy, but I’ll happily leave that fodder for others who come in from outside the neighborhood and don’t have a handle on what really matters in LIC.
Here’s an example of something that may have been overlooked but would be invaluable to those in need of such a thing. There is a new posting on Tenant King offering a sublet for a waterfront studio during both the long Thanksgiving weekend, and all of Xmas-New Years week. The apartment is brand new, has a gorgeous view of the city, and is reasonably priced for these two heavily trafficked time slots. Check out the link below if interested. For what it’s worth, Tenant King seems to be a pretty good local source to find and/or lease out an apartment short term (long term too). So if you’re looking to make a little extra cash this holiday season, consider renting out your highly coveted accommodations.
Oh yes, and then another link that only a local could make. I couldn’t help but have ‘Deja Vu all over again’1 yesterday upon reading the citywide headline “Pit Bull Mauls 9-Year Old Girl to Death.” Sound very familiar? Only if you’ve been reading LICtalk as your local news source, because only here did we report about the 8-Year Old Local Girl Severely Mauled by Dog on Center Boulevard last month. What did the other guys write on this big local topic? Crickets. Exactly what one would expect from news organization’s whose main source of leads is press releases.
Finally, one last local item not seen anywhere else (yet, anyway). There is a short survey being circulated in regards to the new ferry landing in Hunters Point North – location being the main, but not sole, issue. Hear ye, hear ye, I will now take the rest of the week off!
Waterfront Studio Available 11/23-11/29 and Again 12/22-1/2 – grab it while you can
Pit Bull Mauls 9-Year Old Girl to Death on Long Island – “The dog had the girl in its mouth like a rag doll,” said a shocked neighbor” Eerily familiar?
LIC Survey on Second East River Ferry Landing – Gantry Park or 44th Drive?

[…] //AS is typical when we head into the back half of November, there’s a paucity of local news at this time of year. A much needed break after the deluge of national news in the past six months, which crescendoed two weeks ago. As we veer from the news cycle, the party circuit heats up. Kicking it all off, there’s a free reception tonight at Plaxall’s headquarters for the ‘Long Island City Artists’ Fall Members Art Show. There will be art, live music, dance, poetry, food, and drinks! It’s from 6-10pm and open to everyone. Click below for more details. […]
