Correction: previously it may have been inferred from my wording that Murasaki was only doing takeout. The restaurant itself is now open for diners as well.
Long Island City finally gets it’s first dedicated sushi restaurant with the grand opening of Murasaki Sushi today. Yes, we we have had numerous ‘fusion’ restaurants for years that made sushi along side various other Asian cuisines. Plus Hibino’s opening a year ago gave us our first solely-dedicated Japanese restaurant. Yet it specializes in Obanzai, or Japanese tapas, and sushi is a secondary consideration. So at last we get what every other neighborhood from Inwood to the Rockaways has long viewed as a staple: raw fish, on rice and solo.
According to an employee at the restaurant, the sushi chef has a lot of experience in Japan, and even taught sushi preparation there. Murasaki will be open every day but Monday, will serve lunch as well except on Sundays, and has numerous non-sushi Japanese entrees as well. They currently do not have a liquor license, but expect one soon, and are only doing takeout, not delivery, for the time being. So get yourself a plate of fugu and a dragon roll, and don’t forget your flask.
//The Plaxall family has announced a major sale of a property. It’s the large taxi depot on Jackson across from the BP station and it sold for a cool $43.5 million. According to the press release, it will be a 169.5K square foot condo building comprised of 182 units, plus have the requisite retail component street side. By my reckoning, this will be the largest condo project developed in LIC since the 2008 crash. Has the RE tide turned?
//Two local events to consider for the 4th, down by the river. First of all, BLVD is having a prix fixe featuring house wines and a food for $75 if you buy in advance. Considering it runs from 3pm until 11pm, that comes out to less than $10 an hour – one could do a lot of damage during that time.
The LIC Flea will be holding a night market, that will run until 10:30pm. Beer Garden: check, food: check, fireworks: check
LIC Site Sold for $43.5 Mil – not chump change. but they were asking $53 mil
Man on Wheelchair Robs LIC Bank – what else can I say?
