Though the buildings in Hunters Point South topped off several months ago, they have been left open to the elements due to an argument with their window supplier, according to The Wall Street Journal. Apparently HPS’ developer tried to renegotiate the contract, so the vendor refused to ship the windows. Fear not, because when it comes to affordable housing, all it takes is a little more cash from the government to smooth things over. The article states that things should be up and running shortly.
That’s good news, because I would have trouble sleeping at night knowing that a select strata of lottery-winning residents won’t have to live in substandard and architecturally inferior market rate housing much longer:
“The SHOP Architects-designed project has an eye-catching design… In renderings, the windows are of various sizes and some are flecked with orange, roughly lending the facades the appearance of an uneven checkerboard.”
In other news, the LIC Flea starts again this weekend and the first 100 entrants today and tomorrow get an LIC Flea t-shirt. Gates open at 10am, so go checkout all the new vendors.
