SHOW PALACE UNDER ATTACK

Sometimes you gotta fight for your right to party

All nude, all the time …just like 1010WINS

Who knew that in addition to everything else we have in Long Island City, there is a defender of freedom?  Ok, that title may be a bit of a stretch, but this weekend in The New York Times there was an article about strip clubs in New York, and how local community boards are going after them by trying to rescind, or denying at outset, their liquor licenses. There’s not a lot of meat in the story, and in my mind serves as an opportunity for the paper to take a page from Murdoch and tantalize readers, replete with the license to run a salacious pic under the guise of journalism1. The article centers around LIC’s Show Palace and how it is the holdout fighting its rejection, and recently won a decision in the State Supreme Court.  Not quite the Supreme Court, but pretty impressive coming out of little old LIC.  A final ruling on its ability to serve liquor will come in a month. More importantly, as any lawyer in New York State would know, the silver lining to not having a liquor license, is that the clubs are allowed full nudity, or as the Times refers to it “in the raw.”

Ooh, and speaking of which, did you know that the Japanese restaurant Hibino has finally opened?  Well maybe you read about it on Monday, but if you subscribed to LICtalk’s twitter feed you would have known about it Friday morning, and could have eaten there over the weekend.  Instead you probably just walked over to Show Palace and had spring rolls, broiled salmon, and a mocktail.  While Hibino too has yet to obtain their liquor license, at least you could have BYOB.

Show Palace has always been nothing more than a tempest in a teapot.

Hibino on the other hand, I’m expecting to be a great addition to our neighborhood, and hopefully an indicator of restaurants to come.

I hope you’re right on Hibino being just the beginning. I am so tired of pan-asian fusion, italian, and gussied up bar food being the dominant offering around here.

I’d gladly forgo booze for clams!

    Nice one, Mikey.

  4. […] Daily News has reported that Show Palace, the controversial all nude strip club on 21st Street across from the exit ramp of the Queensboro Bridge, had five women busted early yesterday morning […]
