WITH the huge bag of Halloween candy still half full and the Christmas lights on Vernon Boulevard having been up for a week, Thanksgiving’s presence can seem a harried affair. Especially given the abbreviated work-week and expectations of crowded getaways.
Nevertheless, let us take a moment to remember all we have to be thankful for in Long Island City. Short commutes. World-class parks. Two brand-new schools. A soon-to-be-completed library that’s a masterpiece.
Oh, and great neighbors.
//AS is typical when we head into the back half of November, there’s a paucity of local news at this time of year. A much needed break after the deluge of national news in the past six months, which crescendoed two weeks ago. As we veer from the news cycle, the party circuit heats up. Kicking it all off, there’s a free reception tonight at Plaxall’s headquarters for the ‘Long Island City Artists’ Fall Members Art Show. There will be art, live music, dance, poetry, food, and drinks! It’s from 6-10pm and open to everyone. Click below for more details.
