As the streets of Vernon Boulevard are torn asunder this summer, we got a query from a reader about the development across from the 7-trains entrances on that street.  LIC resident Andy G. asked:

Nothing has happened on the site at 49-18 Vernon Boulevard for a couple months now.  Meanwhile, it’s been a huge pain in the butt for pedestrians in the always-crowded Vernon/Jackson area.  The initial green fence wasn’t bad as it didn’t impede the sidewalk, but then it was moved outward on both streets and we’ve had street blockage—and an eyesore–for months now with no progress whatsoever.”

Though I was clueless as to why, our friends at The Court Square Blog dug for the answer and shared with Andy that they received a “Stop-Work” order from the city on May 19, and it was just partially rescinded this week.  Phew, it’s the weekend so let’s move on to the good stuff.

//Que pasa Bierocracy?  You were supposed to open in December, got delayed until March, and now it’s August.  Once again I’m clueless, but thanks to Jeremy Swillinger, a real estate salesperson at the Level Group, we were given a sneak peek with the picture above.  Still no idea as to the opening, but by the looks of things I may not have to fly off to Munich for Oktoberfest this year.  Though you never know when you’ll get your final sign-off from the NYC DOB.

//Hey, do you like the breaking stories we’ve presented in the last few weeks?  Well they all came from readers of LICtalk.  So if you want to see more you’re going to have to pass it on – I’ll show you mine, if you show me yours.  Please send local news tips to [email protected]

//Saturday Night Special: Free Shakespeare in Gantry Park!  We’ve raved about Hip to Hip Theater Company’s productions previously, and there’s certainly no better setting.  So bring ye casks and flasks and wenches and wee’uns …and folding chairs, to the field in Gantry Park this Saturday, August 1 and next Saturday, August 8.  The kid friendly fun starts at 7pm, showtime 7:30.

Sloppy Non-Union work. People don’t understand the things they have to do…file…submit to the city and its agencies in order to legally and safely perform work in the city of NY. This building is going to take forever.
