IN tracing the footsteps of my forebears down south, such as William Faulkner and Tennessee Williams, I could not help but take note that there are a lot of roadside fireworks stands in every state below the Mason Dixon line. And just like an accountant after April 15, or a retailer after December 25th, they all close after July 4.

The Macy’s Fourth of July Fireworks are coming back to Long Island City in 2022! According to sources at the LIC Post, the barges will be positioned exactly as last year: smack dab in the middle of the Hunters Point waterfront.

IT’S been three years since the Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks “officially” took place in Long Island City, which in LIC years is about a decade. Thus for all you newcomers to the neighborhood, here’s a primer for what some locals call the ‘Big Dance,’ and others refer to as the ‘Super Bowl,’ and yet a third contingent calls ‘Smoke On The Water.’
