Every year at this time, I write that this week is the best one of the 52 to be a New Yorker ((Boy I used to really be a decent writer. I also once had a life. What happened?)) and to live in Long Island City. In 2015, it all collapses into a one-two punch weekend: Halloween on Saturday and the marathon on Sunday.

We received a rumor that Cafe Henri is finalizing its plans to move out of its current location on Vernon Boulevard and into Related’s new building on Center Boulevard, Hunters Point Commons ((the bigger, orange all-affordable housing tower across from Avalon South)).

Thank goodness for the Mets, without whom I’d be hard pressed to find any worthy local news this week. Is it a coincidence that they made the World Series in the same exact year that Queens was named the top tourist destination in the country? I don’t know, there’s definitely something spooky going on considering that they finished below .500 last year.
I’ve already fessed up to recently getting on the Mets bandwagon, and the excitement in LIC and Queens couldn’t be greater but given my usually contrarian nature, I think I’m going to hedge it by purchasing property in the Bronx.

Last night on the ABC and CBS 11 o’clock news, the mother of the girl who was mauled by a dog on Center Boulevard was interviewed. In one of the lead stories on both channels ((it was the lead story on CBS – good thing the Mets were off last night)), she gave an account of the incident and made a plea to the authorities to help find the dogs owner.
