Men and women in blue suede shirts emblazoned with the logo “Tenant King” have invaded LIC. What is Tenant King? Basically a community bulletin board for Long Island City.

We wrote about the company’s local founders and provenance back in March. Four months later and we noticed their young employees canvassing the town, promoting the site, and signing up users. Lace up your high-tops and practice your hook shot, a 3×3 basketball tournament is coming to the courts on 48th Avenue and it is open to all. It is being organized by the LIC YMCA and will take place on July 19 & 20.

DINING AL FRESCO IN LONG ISLAND CITY

LIC’s 2014 Spring battle over the use of restaurant’s backyards, has gotten citywide attention now that summer is here. Yesterday, The Daily News published an article highlighting Alobar’s and 51st Bakery & Cafe rejections so far of their use. Adding fuel to the fire, the story disclosed that:

“The Buildings Department approved plans at 51st Bakery and Café and then backpedaled after receiving an anonymous complaint saying the business did not have a proper certificate of occupancy to open the garden.”

Hmm, the timing sounds a little fishy to me, might it be an inside job?

Anyway, while Community Board 2 is still in its exploratory phase regarding the use of restaurant’s backyards ((which is expected to be completed around the same time as the library)), there are a few new options for dining al fresco this summer.
