Wow, maybe our little neighborhood isn’t quite as idyllic as it seems. According to NY1:
As they left Shi restaurant with a gay friend, they said that three men attacked them, screaming racial and homophobic slurs.
“When I think about the slurs, the N-word and the F-word, it hurts. It hurts. It hurts.” Billie James-Vogel said. “It breaks my heart.”
The injuries were more than just emotional. Jacob said he was repeatedly bashed, hit in the face and tossed to the ground.

In other local news, the LIC waterfront made the cover of yesterday’s New York Times, with a startling before and after picture highlighting all the changes that have occurred during the Bloomberg administration. Also, Christine Quinn picks up an endorsement from Sheryl Sandberg(didn’t know she was a New Yorker?), and in doing so cites LIC as the center of her plan to make NYC the new tech capital of the world. From campaign promises to reality is a long road… Finally, the building on the eastern side of the QueensWest field gets a name: The Maximilian. I wonder if one of the amenities they’re offering is a full-sized athletic field at your door step? Well at least it’s close to Shi.

That was a really disheartening response to the attack by Shi if it went down as alleged in the article. Any more details on this?
the attack was not “by Shi”, it occurred outside of the restaurant.
How awful and a bit scary. Can’t really believe that shi would have turned them away. And Jimmy Van Bramer’s is supposed to be tonight.
It’s actually the couple that was attacked who was creating problems. They were kicked out and obviously got into a scuffle somehow after they left shi and blamed shi for not helping.
This is truly sad. I hope that these racist-homophobic idiots are not our neighbors and that they just happened to be in our neighborhood. Unfortunately incidents like these are happening around the city.
Weekend nights at Shi have been bringing all the rest of Queens to LIC. By and large without a problem, but it is a noticeable difference than during the other times.
According to Facebook, the reported suspect is from Astoria.
Does anyone know if these thugs were patronizing Shi, or we’re they just cruising Center Blvd looking for trouble?
I read in several places that the attackers were in their car.
Maybe shi should rethink who they want their target clientele to be. Sounds pretty scummy.
It should be interesting to hear if/how the suspect turns in his two buddies. We may never hear about it though, as the media quickly moves on from what otherwise would be a pretty pedestrian case.

I hope the media publicizes these idiots photos so they can be shamed for their bigotry. They would probably need to move out of NYC and that is a good thing.
