*You Are Marvelous* The Gods Wait to Delight in You
IN the somberness of the 9/11 anniversary, a lot of man-induced unusually terrible things have been happening nationally, and internationally, in the past week, that very well may have serious implications for how our world looks in the future. Yet sometimes it’s the small things that happen locally that make us ask “What is going on?”
A painted bench, inscripted with the words at top, which has been sitting in front of a home on 47th Road for over a decade, was stolen this week. Why? Why would anyone take the time to haul a simple but bulky item in the middle of the night that has very little economic value? (yet so much psychic value). It’s crazy, but maybe that’s how people are these days? I like to think not: you can steal a bench, but you can’t steal Bukowski!
//HOW about some good news? Bay (Melnick Virgolino) has moved on to the semi’s of ‘America’s Got Talent’ after a rousing version of ‘I Love Rock n Roll’ two weeks ago. Mark your calendars, the next round is this Tuesday, September 16.
//’The hedge fund billionaire aiming to be king of Queens’ is the title of an article in the Financial Times this past week. Who is said billionaire? Steve Cohen, aka Stevie, aka the owner of the NY Mets. Who else? Anyway, according to the article, ‘Early in 2021, Cohen wrote Grech a cheque for $15m, instructing him to hand out money to hundreds of business owners with no strings attached.’ Grech is Tom Grech, the head of the Queens Chamber of Commerce. Cheque is English english for check, as in $$, and indicative of the Financial Times being a) an English publication, and b) behind a firewall. The gist of it seems to detail the desire and machinations behind Cohen’s casino proposal in Flushing, which I am more for than against, with or without “strings.”
