MARDI Gras and Chinese New Year falling on the same day, how often does that happen? Practically never, but now that the New Orleans to Hong Kong to Rio to Shanghai connection has been established, I’ve got more big news to share with you.
Gotham Pickleball is coming to Hunters Point! Whoa, whoa, whoa, don’t blame the messenger if the news isn’t as fortuitous as the intro. I got bills to pay, and to those who play pickleball this really is big news. Well maybe not so big, given that it’s actually going to be their second location in Hunters Point, and the first one I never even got around to chronicling as it happened so stealthily (it’s on a side street, 46th Avenue, and one of several new, but large, businesses to quietly open in the past year in Plaxall’s row of buildings just west of the LIC Bar). The new one will be 26k Square Feet located in TF Cornerstone’s property at 52-37 2nd Street, and will supposedly contain both indoor and outdoor courts.
Anyway, I did chronicle CityPickle’s LIC opening three years ago, but that’s really in the Warehouse District of LIC. Which is a long distance from the Warehouse District in New Orleans, but roulez les bon temps and 新年快乐 all the same ‘ballers.’
