A full sleight of professional pigskin is on tap for Sunday, though these days we get it Thur/Fri too. Toggle that with the US Open Finals, the sun setting before 7, and more schoolkids on the 7, and Fall must be nigh. News starts to flow, and though it was pretty much a fait accompli, One LIC was passed by the City Council this week. Does it matter?

A New Hospital For Long Island City???

DONOVAN Richards gave his thumbs up to the OneLIC Plan this week, with some stipulations, the oddest of which is a request for a new hospital in Long Island City. Oddest yes, but the newfangled demands were multiple and both small and large including a new library for QueensBridge and a batch of $10k small business grants. According to the link below, it was a 4-page laundry list, none of which seem to be binding on the City.

OneLIC Plan: The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly

I received a blast email from Julie Won last week stating “These priorities are the minimum requirements for the OneLIC neighborhood plan to succeed and receive my support when it comes before the City Council for a vote.” The subsequent bullet points were a good jumping off point for me to share my thoughts on this plan, so here we go, with my comments in italics.
