ON the heels of Sweet Chick’s closing in LIC, comes news that Blend on Vernon Boulevard has also closed, and that Tuk Tuk is struggling and debating whether to continue after this month.
Blend on Vernon Boulevard closed at the end of September according to a recent news report and Yelp. It had been open for 20 years and had successfully navigated the trying Vernon Boulevard restaurant environment by attracting a large non-LIC crowd. Some/A lot of that crowd may have been cannibalized by Blend’s opening another outpost just a few blocks away on Center Boulevard, which remains open.
As for Tuk Tuk, I have been receiving conflicting messages: it’s going to close, it might stay open. The latest is that it is in negotiations with its landlord. It too has been a Vernon Boulevard mainstay. Though I’m not exactly sure when it opened, I know it has 15+ years under its belt. Stay tuned…
