BACK in the 20th Century, man had to hunt to find food. Upstate graduates shared insider knowledge of where to find the mighty Buffalo… wings, in New York City. In the late 80’s it was Aeillo’s Pizza on lower 2nd Avenue (28th St. if memory serves me). Come the early 90’s it was the Entourage Sports Cafe on the Upper East Side – back when not only chicken wings were rare in NYC, but sports bars were a novelty too. And then, in a burst of light, a supernova if you will, came the chicken wing explosion of the mid-90’s: Atomic, Blondie’s, Fat Guys, the heyday of the regional chicken wing mini-chain. Where local fry-cooks were the Batali’s and Bourdain’s of their era. Or at least received minimum plus $2. As you may very well ascertain from this intro, The Editor majored in Chicken Wing History in college.
So it gives me great pleasure to announce, that Buffalo Wild Wings GO is coming to Hunters Point in Long Island City. As previously hinted at, they will be taking over the former location of Spokesman Cycles at 49-04 Vernon Boulevard, next to Dunkin’ Donuts. No beer, it’s a ‘GO’ place only. Just wings, and sandwiches, and anything else chicken and fried. And if there’s one thing I learned from my scholarly days back in college, it’s that history follows us wherever we go.
