DO you like the new look of the LICtalk website? Yeah, we figured it was long overdue for an aesthetic makeover, especially since we can’t do anything about the writing.
The tale of how we created the Gantry icon with LIC TALK embedded some may find interesting. Basically, I snapped a photo of the gantries, paid $30 via a 3rd party site to a recently graduated computer engineer in Sri Lanka named Chathuranga, messaged what I was looking to do, and after some back ‘n forth to get it perfect, voila! ((To be more specific, I searched thru a site called Fiverr.com for someone who could do Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator. It took me two or three requests w/ other providers before Chathuranga, whose handle is blux_tt on Fiverr, agreed to take on the gig. We then negotiated a price and delivery time and I sent him the photofile. A day later came the first draft, the next day the second one, then another day of back and forth leading to 6-7 fairly simple revisions))
Furthermore, since a formal business deal has been matriculated between Chathuranga and myself, I am now one of the 4,000 invitees to his wedding in April. Best of all, my banker at Goldman says the updated site is now worth 50% more than it’s previous value of $8.73. 50%? Wow that’s some return on my investment, I should be running a major corporation!

Even in the final days of summer, when all eyes and bodies should be at the beach, the news is dominated by real estate in LIC. Lots of development updates, topping offs, and new renderings. One data point, indicative of nothing really, is how the highest priced “home” ((it’s currently cut up into multi-apartments, but at just under 5,000 square really comes across as a single-family home for any respectable person w/ help and all, right?)) ever offered in Long Island City, or Queens for that matter, listed exactly two years ago at $8 million, has gone through three sets of brokers and can be had today for $4.65 million. In a similar vein, [Read more…] about RAMEN SHACK, LEMONS FROM LEMONADE, DEPRIVATION TANKS
The new condo building on 5th Street across from Cannelle Patisserie has just made it’s units available for purchase through Modern Spaces, according to the real estate website Curbed. Called ‘The Monarch,’ it contains 1-3 bedroom apartments starting at $700,000. A look at the building’s website indicates a 1,027 square foot 2-br unit for sale at $1.1 million. From street level, the building appears sort of bland, but it does have three very important attributes: location, location, location.

Back in early March, we noted that Tishman Speyer announced they were planning a big office tower in Queens Plaza of about a million square feet, and that WeWorks was penciled in to take 250,000 of it. Monday they confirmed that they were going ahead with the project as they had found a financial partner, a Qatari fund, and had lease commitments of 800K sq. ft. Finally, yesterday Crain’s revealed that the extra 550K sq. ft. will be taken by Bloomingdale’s. Phew, what a process!
Anyway, in addition to adding another silhouette to the LIC skyline (27 stories), the interesting part of this development is [Read more…] about BLOOMINGDALE’S TO TAKE 550K SQ FT IN NEW LIC OFFICE TOWER
