That’s right, this website is for all of Long Island City! There are interesting things going on in each of its neighborhoods and this is the best place to find the Who, What, Where on them as they happen. Sure, there may be some grammatical deficiencies, a proclivity for run-on sentences …well basically an overall butchering of the English language, not to mention an over exuberance for the mundane, but hey, we are talking about local news and when the flow is slow sometimes it needs a little hype. Most importantly, we will keep you up to date on all that is happening in the greatest town on the planet as we provide links to all the LIC news, events, openings, closings etc. Then we encapsulate and highlight it all and throw in a little analysis and an occasional rumor. So if you have been asking yourself “Hmm, a lot seems to be happening in this neighborhood, I wonder where I can get information and updates on it all in a concise manner?” The answer is LICtalk.com!
In addition, we invite you to use the “Comments” as a forum for both the articles in the post and for all the hot issues facing Long Island City today. Whether they be articulate and witty, fact filled and mundane, or rantingly profane(with some limits), we welcome all comments and it is very easy to do. Also, can’t find an answer to a pressing LIC question? Ask it in the “Comments” to all your neighbors, someone probably knows and will respond.
Finally, we have been updating the site twice a week, usually at the beginning of the work-week and the end of the work week. You can follow us on Twitter at @lictalk to know exactly when we post plus receive occasional news flashes. In the meantime, we invite you to peruse our past postings to find out all that has been happening in the neighborhood. Two recent topics we have honed in on are the local public school seat shortage and war in the streets(long term parking vs. street cleaning). Other topics of interest discussed over the past year have included:
What Do The Light Colors On The Empire State Building Represent On This Night?
What Is The Name Of The Gazillionaire Who Owns The Taxi Fleet On Vernon Boulevard?
Which Spas In LIC Supposedly Might Be Giving More Than A Massage?
Which New York Mets Are Living In The New TF Cornerstone Building?

Will LIC turn into the next Palo Alto …or Bangalore?
OK, now that we have got the introductions out of the way, let’s get started on this weeks news. First off is a new fact: we are getting stop signs on 5th Street. How do I know? Because there was a press conference for it, d’uhh. This press conference comes on the back of last weeks for the library “dedication” which also gets an article this week mentioning a 2015 finish. One thing that both these press conferences had were 1) a lot of local politicians in attendance and 2) a lot of school kids from PS78 in attendance. Hmm, somewhere in that juxtaposition I believe lies the problem/answers to this nations political and education problems, I mean shouldn’t those kids be in school? They seem to be trotted out for these things regularly, what lessons might they be taking from it? Alright, enough of my interpretations and extrapolations, it’s the weekend, get out and enjoy LIC!

October 12, 2012 at 5:08 pmWow, a ped/bike bridge between Vernon and Brooklyn would be great, but it would make a lot more sense to put it further west at the southern tip of Gantry park to connect with the park on the other side and have a practically seamless park/run/ride.
