The moment we’ve all been dreading has arrived, fast food is coming to Vernon Boulevard1. We’ve heard from a good source that Pizza Hut will be opening in the long empty ground floor of One Vernon-Jackson next to Cafe Henri.
What more can one say – more pizza choices are better? I’m missing the economic viability here, as I’m sure they’re paying a pretty hefty price given the landlord’s holding out for so long2. Didn’t they do a survey prior of existing pizza purveyors nearby?3 Who knows, who cares, there’s nothing anyone can do.
//The New York Times will feature Long Island City in it’s “Living In” real estate column this weekend. Not much new info revealed in the article, it’s titled “Fast Growing, With Great Views,” but given it’s widespread distribution expect contact from everyone who knows you’re living here. The protagonist of the story pretty much sums up what we’ve been saying for a long time:
‘…though they sometimes think about moving to the suburbs, she said, “We feel there is something not right about it, because everything we are looking for in a neighborhood is right here.”’
and
“Ms. Lavaia can get home easily to see her children between trips for work to hospitals in Manhattan and the suburbs, using her car, a taxi or public transportation; her husband, a lawyer, has a 10-minute commute to Midtown on the 7 subway line.”
Best of all, we’ll soon have a Pizza Hut.
//Unbridled growth, unwanted retailers, and any other problems you have with the neighborhood can be vented when Jimmy Van Bramer speaks at the LIC Gantry Parents Association meeting tonight at 7pm at the NY Irish Center on Jackson Avenue – across the street from the soon-to-be opened Pizza Hut.

February 11, 2016 at 7:22 pmWhy? Is there a real need or desire in LIC for bad pizza?

February 11, 2016 at 9:13 pmNo!!!!!!! At least it’s not another nail salon (oh wait that’s coming on the other side of the building).
Seriously- no offense Pizza Hut, but you are not needed or wanted here. This is pretty much the opposite of what LIC needs. I will not be patronizing, with delicious small businesses Slice and Linizio already on Vernon.

February 13, 2016 at 10:03 amReally?? Are the residents of 1 Vernon Jackson now the most hated people in the neighborhood. Talk about greedy and tone deaf. The will NOT receive a cent of $$ either!

February 16, 2016 at 12:03 pmI don’t think the residents of 1 Vernon have any say in it. I bet they are probably pretty upset at the developer because this will not help their property value. I assume the that the retail is a separate condo that is either owned by the original developer or it was sold to different entity. Lets hope that it is only delivery Pizza Hut and it faces Jackson Ave.
