Summer landed on the LIC doorstep this week. First of all, MoMA PS1’s Warm-Up Series just announced it’s line-up. Once again I haven’t a clue as to who any of the bands or DJ’s playing there are: Objekt & Cashmere Cat? Don’t matter, because I’ll be there as will throngs of others from literally all over the world. Click here for my previous two-sentence summary of this event, because this party is timeless. Next, as if we needed any further reminder that summer is just around the corner, ManhattanHenge is this Thursday, May 29. This is where the sun sets directly at the base of the east-west Manhattan streets, and guess where the best vantage point is to view this phenomenon? That’s right, Long Island City! Go down to the Gantry waterfront at sunset and you will see tons of photographers waiting for this moment. Oh, and in case you needed a preview of what the summer holds, you would have gotten one this past weekend had you gone down to LIC Landing, the new outdoor cafe by the ferry. It was packed, with lines 10-deep, but they did an excellent job handling the crowds and expediting service.
Finally, completely unrelated to summer, but something that in my mind best defines a local, but world-renowned, institution. We give you a video snippet from M. Wells that I promise you will not see anywhere else. This one is for gourmands only.

May 28, 2014 at 3:59 pmThe service at LIC Landing was terrible this weekend – I understand busy, but forgetting orders completely should never happen.

May 29, 2014 at 1:30 pmI was really impressed with LIC Landing this weekend. For a super busy weekend, I never experienced any long wait times. When they were changing a keg, I was offered a free beer in exchange for choosing a different tap – which kept the lines moving. Sure 7 bucks is a lot for a beer, but they are good craft beers and you’re on the water. The only comparable experience is Anable Basin where you’re still paying $6 for coronas or buds.
