I really wanted to focus on an LIC-centric story this week, there’s some good fodder with a 70-story penthouse, an artists fire in Hunters Point, and some tawdry Julie Won allegations (see below). But the reality of Long Island City being the Center of The Universe, as well as so easily accessible and thus so enmeshed with Manhattan has struck again. Combined with the monumental collision that is this particular weekend in NYC and there really is no contest in declaring it the GOAT.
Tonight we have the USMNT playing their first World Cup 2026 game. Tomorrow at 6pm the first World Cup game to take place at MetLife Stadium begins at 6pm. Given that Brazil is one of the two teams playing, the celebration leading up to it lasts 36 hours as anyone who was in Midtown today can attest by the sea of yellow shirts parading and singing throughout. A win and they will be dancing til dawn and beyond come Sunday morning.
But of course, that will be merely a trifle compared to the main event tomorrow night at 8:30pm. Words cannot describe the electricity that will be in the air as the sun begins to set and people gather around the telly’s so I won’t even attempt them. Bars will be PACKED, is an understatement. Streets will be FILLED with a win too. Electricity.
And if that level of insanity is not enough, we have the Puerto Rican Day Parade on Sunday!
