LONG Island City will get a third new BBQ restaurant in 2019 when Pig Beach opens it’s second location in the former Studio Square space up near the Astoria border. According to an article in Boro Magazine, this will happen in late Fall.
Pig Beach currently operates in the Gowanus section of Brooklyn, serving bbq and booze at communal tables in a sprawling indoor/outdoor setting not unlike Studio Square’s. It is similarly well positioned to accommodate large groups and host events. Though I doubt there will be much beach action come say November, there certainly will be ample opportunity to enjoy pigskin, or commiserate as the case may be given the trajectory of our two local teams.
//FLOOR Plan, Mall Grab, Bad Gyal and many other performers I’ve never heard of will be playing live at the 2019 MoMA PS1 Warm-ups. Don’t let my lack of familiarity with current music trends deter you from attending these extravaganzas. I do know that there’s no better indicator of a potentially awesome show than beach balls being batted around beforehand (see accompanying article). More importantly, the announcement of the Warm-up line-up is yet another signal that summer in LIC is fast approaching. The series occurs every Saturday afternoon/eveningfrom June 30 to September 1
//BEFORE we get to summer, there will be another extravaganza that can only be described as such. Called “MADE in Queens (Site City Future)” it is described as a variety show and exhibition in collaboration with LIC artists. It will occur on Saturday, June 1 from 1pm – 6pm and is free – see more including registration in link below..
//FREE movies, all summer long in LIC at the Oval in Hunters Point Park. The season begins this Saturday, May 18 at dusk with a showing of the animated film Sing.
//FINALLY we can’t depart without making a comment about real estate in LIC. Recent headlines have indicated that rents citywide have firmed up in the past year, citing a reduction in concessions (and subsequent net effective monthly rents) as the leading indicator. This firming has been partially attributed to individuals deciding to put off purchases in light of all the highly visible inventory coming to market. 1 While heretofore new sales inventory here in LIC has come in drips and drabs, this week we add another large swath2 of inventory with news that STAR Tower’s 184 units are up for grabs. Starting at $1.4 million for a 2-bdrm, the developers are seemingly of the mindset that buyers will come around…
