SUMMER kicks off in Long Island City with a lot of live music outdoors this weekend. The ‘Queens New Music Festival’ runs today thru Sunday on the Plaxall parking lot. Tomorrow we get Queens Rising at The Gantries with a number of free shows beginning at 3pm.

‘Live At The Gantries’ Has Returned To LIC

IN yet another sign that things are getting back to normal, ‘Live At The Gantries’ musical performances have returned to LIC this summer. Every Tuesday at 7pm thru August 24 a different band and a different genre will take the stage under the Gantries by 49th Avenue and Center Boulevard. By my estimation two-thirds of the bands are really good, one-third so-so and one-third awesome. Like I said, that’s an estimate, no guarantees, but the price is right and the setting perfect.

LONG Island City will get a third new BBQ restaurant in 2019 when Pig Beach opens it’s second location in the former Studio Square space up near the Astoria border. According to an article in Boro Magazine, this will happen in late Fall.

Nothing brings on thoughts of summer in LIC to a greater extent than the announcement of the location for the Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks. But that’s been delayed, so we’ll have to go with highly anticipated summer notification #2: the MoMA PS1 Warm-up musical line-up.
