EVERY June I anxiously await the performer schedule for Live at The Gantries – the Tuesday evening summer concert series at Gantry Plaza State Park. Will the Rolling Stones, U2, or Beyonce decide to play in my backyard this year? Well convenience has it’s attributes too and I guess the 2017 acts are more in line with the low-key nature of the event. Yet the backdrop is still nonpareil, the price is right, and as for the bands, they take one look at the setting and realize “If you ain’t played The Gantries, you ain’t played NYC.”
//UNTIL the live music starts, we’ve got plenty of other local events occurring. Lotsa free or almost free movies all summer, a big LIC confab in two weeks, and this weekend we have stargazing tonight, a beer and taco-fest, a bike parade, and a freak parade tomorrow, and of course the 149th running of the Belmont Stakes around 6:30pm tomorrow evening. 149 years ago The Gantries were still a half-century away from being built. Rock on!
