THE Super Bowl is a major celebration and extravaganza for most people, but for some it’s more like a funeral. The season is over and they are suddenly bereft of NFL action for six whole months of Sundays. Talk about withdrawal, there’s some serious cold-turkey with nothing but meaningless regular season NHL/NBA games and zero of substance sports-wise (=life-wise?) until March Madness begins six weeks later. No gridiron methadone for addicts come mid-winter.

AFTER six weeks of pre-season games where hope springs eternal, 18 weeks of 11×11 hard-hitting full tackle winnowing of the parity pack (w/ NYC & Carolina taking a pass on this phase), and three weekends of blissful playoffs, it’s the Chiefs and the Niners. The pizza and wings of elite NFL teams in the 2020’s. In fact when these two teams actually met in the Super Bowl, the pandemic was not. Picture it, February 2020, Patrick Mahomes was not on television 24/7, nor a recognized name by most Americans. While his counterpart on the 49’ers did have some name recognition as the permanent understudy for Mr. Super Bowl himself, Tom Brady. Such innocent times back then, no?
