SCHOOL’S ON, THEN OFF, THEN ON, THEN…

Tomorrow is the first day of school for NYC public school students. After putting in a solid three days, those kids will then get a 4-day weekend due to Rosh Hashanah. Then it’s back to the grindstone for three days, only to have yet another 3-day school week in week three of the school year due to Yom Kippur and the newly added Eid Al Adha.

I can taste a cold one just looking at the pic

As the streets of Vernon Boulevard are torn asunder this summer, we got a query from a reader about the development across from the 7-trains entrances on that street. LIC resident Andy G. asked:

“Nothing has happened on the site at 49-18 Vernon Boulevard for a couple months now. Meanwhile, it’s been a huge pain in the butt for pedestrians in the always-crowded Vernon/Jackson area. The initial green fence wasn’t bad as it didn’t impede the sidewalk, but then it was moved outward on both streets and we’ve had street blockage—and an eyesore–for months now with no progress whatsoever.”

Though I was clueless as to why, our friends at The Court Square Blog dug for the answer and shared with Andy that they received a “Stop-Work” order from the city on May 19, and it was just partially rescinded this week. Many of us have started to venture out to Brooklyn to places like the Botanical Gardens and we have all learned that there is no better play area than our very own Gantry Park. But did you know that we have a lot more to offer including world class contemporary art? I had the chance to join a class trip with PS 78 to the Queens Museum and I was blown away.
