The Daily News reports that the owners of Chelsea Market have decided to transform a building they bought in LIC back in May 2012 into another umm, Market. They can’t call it LIC Market because we already have a great restaurant by that name. It’s also in a forlorn area of LIC, basically it’s on the wrong side of the tracks. They’re really going to have to flex their marketing muscle to draw a crowd over there. But they’ve done it before, so we’ll assume they know what they’re in for. Can’t say it’s much of a surprise though. We hinted at a possible transformation back when they first purchased it, and then a year later when we heard the head of the project, Michael Phillips, speak at a local real estate conference. For those in the business of speculating in real estate, you may want to take a stroll over to those parts. It’s the last area left where there might be a few bargains.

October 4, 2013 at 10:30 amlove it. we’ll have the lic flea, the new warehouse market, and now this high end chelsea market. will hunters point really become a “destination”? they need to get a google or perhaps an apple development center around here and some high-end restaurants and night clubs.

October 5, 2013 at 8:51 pmThis is off the beaten path (aka across the tracks), for any resident of hunter’s point to go visit on a routine basis. Who will go here on a daily basis? Probably the local students and then it’ll be extremely slow at nights and on weekends. Bring it across the track closer to Vernon/Jackson and then you’ll have a great business opportunity.
