IT caught the corner of my eye as I was passing by, and in an instant my world had changed.
According to a banner in the window of 47-30 Vernon Boulevard a Chinese Restaurant (& Bar!) is coming soon to that location. Formerly the home of Roman restaurant Testaccio followed by a brief conversion to Tutti Matti, which included an all-you-can-eat pizza and pasta option, it will be Vernon Boulevard’s first Chinese restaurant since New Garden across the street closed two years ago.
Will it be straight or fusion? I do not know. Will it be Cantonese, Szechuan, or Hunan? I do not know. When will it open? I do not know1. In the meantime though I can dream, and there will be a bar!
//THE PS78Q Spring Fair occurs next Saturday, June 8th from 11am to 3pm on Center Boulevard. Open to all kids in the neighborhood, the fair doesn’t happen without parents volunteering. Please consider contributing to the community by helping out with a shift, click here for the sign-up link.
Amazon Scopes Out Manhattan Office Space – drastically smaller footprint than what was planned for LIC, but either way the fat lady has sung
The Station Opens at 25-07 Queens Plaza North – sandwiches and more

LIC Raised NBA Player Profiled in Showtime Doc – “The polarizing baller says he long struggled with the crippling mix of depression and anxiety that stemmed from an unstable childhood in Long Island City’s Queensbridge “

June 2, 2019 at 10:00 amThey have some pretty solid food there. One issue is these small restaurants don’t get enough foot traffic partially because there aren’t a lot of people coming in from out of town to work in the area. I’ve seen a bunch of decent places close the last 8 years on/around Vernon Blvd. Pretty sad to see.

June 3, 2019 at 9:29 am@Jayne you do realize alcohol is, by far, the highest margin business for any restaurant right? Happy hours cost them nearly nothing. That said, thank you for missing my real point in that Japanese is not Chinese

While this Amazon talk isn’t going to stop, it doesn’t need to be negative, rather productive. I hope there are discussions going on in the background between Queens and Amazon still. A significant opportunity walked away from Queens with the loud local negativity. To me, some of it was sincere and some of it seemed too political. For the future of NYC and NY state residents, we really should want the opportunity to collaborate together with the company to do what’s best for NY and Amazon together. It’s not too late if we can remove ego’s from the equation.
