We’ve got three whopper-size food stories for ya LIC – two of them are breaking news. First of all, Danny Brown is bringing his act from Forest Hills and opening a new restaurant here in Long Island City. Who the hell is Danny Brown you ask? Well, long before Michelin sprinkled it’s stars all over Queens, Danny Brown’s Wine Bar and Kitchen was the first recipient. Actually it was only a year before, nevertheless it was an indication of the high regard the guide bestowed on the restaurant, and put Queens on the radar for a whole host of new foodies. Particularly international ones and those skewed toward haute cuisine. For those still singed by my April Fool’s ‘Danny’ post, let me share with you that 1) the restaurant went before the community board last week, and 2) it will be located at 26-20 Jackson Avenue, on the corner of Purves Street.
//Are you ready for big news number two? Communitea is coming back! They too filed for a liquor license, and will be located at 11-18 46th Road, just east of 11th Street. The site is still being cleared out, and construction hasn’t begun so it could be awhile, but let me be the first to say the community is excited to welcome back Communitea.
//Finally, though it’s been broadcast in multiple media outlets already, we are excited to hear that Smorgasburg has selected the triangular ‘pool lot’ across from the Citi building in Court Square, as their Queens outpost. Of course, there’s already a second ‘burg in Brooklyn, that’s not in Williamsburg, and a third opening at Coney Island, and one opening in Manhattan at the Seaport, and a pop-up one in Central Park at Summerstage. Hmm, maybe Smorgasburg, like Brooklyn itself, has jumped the shark? In that case I’ll stick with our hometown Queens-born ‘n bred LIC Flea.
