Today is the day that parents will be receiving their acceptance or rejection letter for their kindergartener at PS78. For those parents, all other news is a very, very distant second. Yet win, lose, or draw(waitlist?), the weekend is here and so is the spring weather. With that in mind, can you think of anything better than an all day pig roast? When combined with cold beer and live music it’s the perfect background for celebrating or commiserating. Then, come Monday you can repent for your swine-eating and swill-drinking ways, and sign up for the new Hunters Point CSA, which just opened for registration.

April 5, 2013 at 6:17 pmIt looks like this is the week of reckoning for all public kindergarten programs:
Gifted & Talented test results will be mailed to families today. If you submitted the Request for Testing form online, you will receive an email on Saturday by 9am, which will allow you to log in to the online site (https://prod.semsnycdoe.com/parentsite) to see your child’s results, and if eligible, begin the Gifted & Talented application for placement.

April 5, 2013 at 10:25 pmI heard rumor that PS78 will NOT be expanded kindergarten seats for next year. There are apparently only 50 K seats. Can anyone confirm/deny?

April 6, 2013 at 1:32 pmWhat’s the source of this rumor??? As of January PS 78 was on track to convert to K thru 2 and with the departure of 3 grades would come the expansion by one class of the lower grades to accommodate the big influx of kindergartners.

April 8, 2013 at 11:50 amThere is a lot of rumors going around. What I have heard is that they have only filled the K seats they currently have available and have not opened the additional one class that would be generated as a function of opening the new school. I figure they will only grant those seats once they are 100% sure that the new school will be ready for September. This is not to say that the school is not on schedule, but with construction there is always surprises.
Before they decided that all the lower grades(K to 2nd?) will stay in PS78 the new school was going to have two classrooms per grade and PS78 would continue to have two classrooms per grade. Therefore, shouldn’t their be four classrooms from K – 2nd as oppose to three classrooms per grade?

April 8, 2013 at 4:44 pmThe source of this rumor, was due to the office of enrollment lady giving a prek tour on last week. For some reason she said there will only be 2 prek and 2 kindergarten classes. it has been confirmed today by ps 78 that there are indeed 3 kindergarten classes and 2 prek classes.
