DUN HUANG, a restaurant specializing in Northwestern Chinese cuisine, is opening a location at 27-25 Jackson Avenue in Long Island City. What is Northwestern Chinese cuisine?
Think noodles, specifically Lanzhou beef noodles, which are fresh hand-pulled and immersed in beef broth with slices of marinated beef, cilantro and radish. In addition to numerous other noodle dishes, offerings include pita burgers, lamb chops, steak, big plate chicken, spicy-numbing stir fry pot, all spiced and/or marinated in ways that make it uniquely Northwestern, which is probably really good. Slurp!
By the look of things I’m guessing we’re 2-4 months from opening. This will be the mini-franchises’ 10th location, which seems to fit the pattern these days both within LIC and the tri-state area. As The New York Times put it almost three years ago, the city “suddenly seems awash in noodle menus.” I’m happy to be the beneficiary.
