Dutch Kills Centraal Restaurant To Permanently Close

Dutch Kills Centraal is permanently closing according to the owners. The restaurant, located on a quiet corner three blocks north of Queens Plaza, originally opened in 2013 when the immediate neighborhood was close to a dead zone, especially come nightfall. In the ensuing years numerous hotels and a few residential towers have sprung up.

Nevertheless the gastropub, whose website bills itself as (and very much feels like) “A neighborly place around the corner, welcoming locals and travelers alike” has effectively succumbed to the economic upheaval of the coronavirus. According to Dominic Stiller, one of the owners, after six good years they had a slow winter and were really hoping things would turn in the Spring. But the reliance on a sizeable hotel population doesn’t look to improve over the foreseeable future, and so we’ve decided to liquidate.

Given that, the restaurant is selling off all it’s inventory and this Saturday will hold a final sidewalk sale and bon voyage including cold beer and wine bottles.

Now while Dominic asked that I mention his dedicated workers who were serious professionals in the hope of finding new employers for his cleaners, cooks, and servers, which I’m happily doing here, I have a better idea…

Is there someone in Long Island City interested in taking over a turnkey bar & grill in a fragile but growing neighborhood? While there’s no question the next year is going to be difficult, you’ve got a 1,000 unit residential building going up three blocks away, quite a few other residential projects in varying states nearby, and maybe even a landlord willing to negotiate with a new tenant given the state of retail in the pandemic.
