Well Election Day has passed, and I expect the results will have minimal impact on your life. Yet a very local vote the week before may hold greater significance in how it affects the people of LIC on a day-by-day basis. This vote was sort of open to everyone, but only about 50 people showed up. I am referring to the participatory budgeting powwow, where citizens nominate neighborhood capital projects to fund.
Here is what was interesting about it. The thing that most people wanted was a local community center! When told by the leaders present that there was only $1 million total available for all the capital projects throughout LIC, Sunnyside, etc., they still opted to dedicate the maximum amount possible to any capital project that would spur a community center.
Sounds to me like the people have spoken!

November 10, 2014 at 10:36 amThey really need to stop building in the area. Too much development is not a good thing. If people of LIC wanted it to feel as crowded and stressed as Manhattan or Brooklyn, they wouldn’t be in LIC.
