Hundreds of years before the dawn of history
Lived a strange race of people, the Druids
But their legacy remains
Hewn into the living rock, of Stonehenge
Where the banshees live and they do live well
Stonehenge! Where a man’s a man
And the children dance to the Pipes of Pan
//I can’t think of any word with the addendum “henge” attached that doesn’t make me envision the Stonehenge scene in Spinal Tap. ManhattanHenge via LIC truly evinces a squeal because we have the oversized Gantries standing in for the undersized napkin-erred Stonehenge sets. We also have a lot of amateur photographers crowding around those gantries, whose presence makes me envision something completely different.
Anyway before I get completely off topic, make sure you have film in the polaroid because Memorial Day at 8:13pm is when it all goes down for the first time, followed the next day at the same bat time, and then again on July 12 & 13 at 8:20pm.
//THE Queens Chronicle looked into the future of the LIC Academy of Music, and it appeared bleak. They called a few instructors who work there, and it seems like the recently arrested founder was a one-man band when it came to running the place. Putting aside what may have occurred, wouldn’t it be great if someone could resurrect what was an important and convenient musical learning center?
//IN case you didn’t get enough obscure Queens cuisine in Anthony Bourdain’s ‘Parts Unknown’ last week, Robert Sietsema at Eater NY tags on some additional similarly off-the-beaten track suggestions in the link below.
//WHAT is Queens Book Festival? Personally I imagine it as a group of self-publishing writers primarily living in Brooklyn talking about their novels and poems. But I solely read the classics and Chaucer is dead, so find out for yourself when it takes place around town this Memorial Day Weekend. What I never would have imagined is that it would be presented by Resorts World Casino.
The End For LIC Academy of Music? – “the doors were shut and nobody answered the buzzer. A former teacher at the school, who wished not to be identified, said he recently was told by a colleague who worked there, “they’re closing it down.””
