ABOUT two weeks ago, the windows were papered over at 10-01 50th Avenue. Previously the brief home of Juice n Bagels/Black Star Bakery, and for a much longer period Dorian’s Diner, this highly visible and well-trafficked location on Vernon Boulevard and on top of the Vernon/Jackson Manhattan-bound subway station, has been vacant since January. Curiosity got the best of me and in snooping around the premises on the way to work, I asked a construction worker ‘What’s coming in here?’
‘Starbucks’ came the reply. Though it was delivered with authority, I’m not sure how much authority this worker really had. But I’m rolling with it and expect to be picking up my Espresso Con Panna come November. No wait, make that an Oleato Caffe Latte with Oatmilk. On third thought, a Clover Vertical Bali Mount Batur Brewed Coffee. With whipped cream. Mm-mm, whipped cream.

July 23, 2024 at 8:50 pmInstead of the one of the other 6 independent places to get coffee within 3 blocks? Bricktown, Sweetleaf, 51st, Takumen, NuLook, Blackstar (and Dunkin, for what it’s worth, at least it’s been part of the community for a while)

July 24, 2024 at 8:28 amDunkin’ is one of the largest chains in the world and provides some of the
Worst products in the world. And you’ll complain about Starbucks? Who provides their employees with college education, excellent benefits, and a positive work environment?
keep LIC as is says
July 24, 2024 at 9:37 amThis is exactly what the horrid landlords want. Jack up prices so only huge corporations can bookend their properties.
and to piggyback on the dunkin’ comment, they are disgusting and this is where most of the panhandlers that are violent hang outside of. cant wait to be screamed at if this opens twice on the same block!

July 24, 2024 at 11:20 amguys, relax…with the amount of people in the area and the many more to come…all these places can exist.
and its better than an empty storefront.
on the weekends blackstar, sweetlead, the truck on center blvd that sells coffee, etc are always busy…the starbucks will be fine.
lets just keep pushing for other smaller spots as well.

October 6, 2024 at 3:13 pmSay you’re new to living in LIC without saying you’re new to LIC . Gentrifiers never get it, they never understand the damage that they do, they just burn things down and move on.

July 25, 2024 at 10:43 pmOmg please no, boycott Starbucks-there are so many reasons why besides the fact that they are supporting genocide. We already have fantastic local coffee spots, this is honestly heart breaking for Vernon blvd.

July 26, 2024 at 10:48 amIsn’t Dunkin a franchise? I believe they are all or almost all owned by individuals. They are not corporately owned locations. So the small guy still wins with dunkin.
