Flash – THERE WILL BE NO 7-TRAIN SERVICE FROM LIC TO MANHATTAN THIS WEEKEND OR NEXT – per tipster & MTA website
We’re going to squeeze the lemon and try to get a post’s worth of LIC information for you during a slow news week where all the local stories were broken or created by the citywide press. Though I promise not to do a wholesale regurgitation of one of those stories, I will start with food. The New York Times gives a big smooch to the Court Square Diner in its Neighborhood Joint column. In summary, it dwells on the camaraderie not the cuisine. Oh wait, The Court Square Blog, one of LIC’s finest publications (there are two in that category), did announce that a Sweetleaf is coming to Tishman Speyer’s massive residential project in Queens Plaza. Oh wait, here’s another local food tidbit as broken by moi, thanks to a tipster: The Howard Stern show had a staff outing at Maiella late last month, and raved about the Fettuccine Maiella. With that news let me say that I am honored to be the local gossip columnist.
Oh wait, while after the food news come those heavily reported links others may have practically cut and pasted, and after that your standard real estate fare including a not-so-standard 3-bedroom on Center Blvd for $5,100, I opted to peruse the local real estate listings for some real estate porn and guess what I found? The building housing Kumon on Jackson Avenue is up for sale. While no price is listed, the current rent that Kumon is paying for their LIC retail location is: $5,604, which according to the listing is about 2/3 of market – fyi. Also, the apartments above it are loft-like inasmuch as they are pretty much 1,500 sf of open floor. One is pretty cool, the other is umm …practical? Finally, a 4-br penthouse with 18′ ceilings and a terrace is for sale in The Jackson for just under $4 million – in case you’re in the market. That’s all the juice I got.
