THERE is no vacation at LICtalk. If there is news, we hunt it down 365. Gyu Kaku Japanese BBQ is coming to 44-45 21st Street in Long Island City.
Formerly the home most recently of Palace Chicken and Grill, this freestanding corner location has cycled through a number of low-end chicken and rib themes over the past decade plus. The newest incarnation, may very well end up sticking (to your ribs). Why? Because Gyu Kaku is part of a large chain with over 600 locations all over the States, and the world.
Gyu Kaku specializes in yakiniku, which is essentially small pieces of grilled meats and vegetables self-cooked on a hot center-of-table flame, very similar to typical Korean bbq joints. Nevertheless, the menu is very extensive with a host of non-grilled options. Not a bad way to end the year, or start it.
