THE Super Bowl is a major celebration and extravaganza for most people, but for some it’s more like a funeral. The season is over and they are suddenly bereft of NFL action for six whole months of Sundays. Talk about withdrawal, there’s some serious cold-turkey with nothing but meaningless regular season NHL/NBA games and zero of substance sports-wise (=life-wise?) until March Madness begins six weeks later. No gridiron methadone for addicts come mid-winter.
Yet we must count our blessings. And we are blessed here in LIC, with an abundance of Asian restaurants. Now you can add another to the list, as Han Dynasty opens a location at 4504 Pearson Street in Court Square this Friday, just before the big game. This will be their fourth branch in NYC and tenth overall, the other six being in the Philly area where they first debuted back in 2007. They’ll be bringing and slinging Sichuan food, check out the whole menu below.
So live for today and bring in a Chinese feast from Han Dynasty for the Super Bowl. And every Sunday through August. While there’ll be no pigskin for six months, you can still order up alotta pork. Oink-oink touchdown!
//’BRUTAL’ is all I could think when I saw the video of a woman getting cold-cocked by a man in the lobby of Hunters Landing at 11-39 49th Avenue in LIC. Worse, that man lives in the building and she could run into him in the elevator at any time. Why is he still living there? Ahh, that is the question to which I do not have an answer to.
//”Long Island City to Receive $10 million from Downtown Revitalization Initiative” reads the headline to press release. What does it mean for LIC? I have no idea after reading the body of said press release. “Support a more equitable downtown resurgence” and “While Long Island City is witnessing growth and private investment in certain geographic areas and sectors, other areas and sectors lie fallow. This uneven growth threatens the mixed-use character and economic wellbeing of the entire community and larger region. To meet these challenges and opportunities, the DRI grant would be used to maximize Long Island City’s burgeoning community assets and steer private investment to create a livable, inclusive, mixed-use community and downtown destination.” I kinda get the picture of the intent, but as for specifics I’m still scratching my head.

The intent is for Herr Hochul to funnel money to political cronies.

February 10, 2024 at 1:15 pmMuch prefer LICTalk over LICpost as the Post doesn’t value community and dialogue and they refuse to publish virtually any comments. Thank you for this site.
As for Han Dynasty coming to LIC: I would be excited as the food must be good. But any food establishment that lets animals that walk around in a sandbox of their own waste on the counter is a no go for me and most other people with hygiene standards.

February 12, 2024 at 12:36 amThe photo with the cat is not of Han Dynasty, but of the Rockaway Brewing Company…a brewery/taproom in LIC. The author should have made that clearer.
