FOR those new to the neighborhood or new to parenthood, the question to ask is not when is the LIC Halloween Parade, or even what are the details – both of which we will give you – it is Who?
Who decides what day it will occur, who decides what activities will occur, who decides when, how and to whom this information will be disseminated? Who decided to bestow this much influence upon a small, secretive group?
For the past 12 months LICtalk has been doing a deep dive investigation into the people behind the LIC Halloween Parade, and what we found was not pretty. At its essence, it is an incestuous collaboration between several organizations and individuals – none of whom is nefarious!
Instead, they are all do-gooders simply trying to bring a little joy into the lives of children throughout the neighborhood. There is no ulterior motive. Zero, zilch! Is that not scary?
We declare that these people, whose names we are withholding in order to deny them their turn in the limelight – you know who you are, are doing a grave disservice to the parents of LIC in creating a turnkey solution to the celebration of this holiday. Just show up, kids in tow, why don’t you.
Anyway if you’re one of those types of parents, the LIC Halloween Parade will take place next Sunday, October 30, from Noon to 2pm along Vernon Boulevard between 50th Avenue and 46th Road. For those unfamiliar, this event hasn’t taken place the past two years due to Covid, and this year the powers-that-be have classified it more as a frolic than the formal parade with line-up of previous annums. Either way, it becomes a free-for-all within ten minutes. So once again just show up, with kids in tow, otherwise it’d be kinda weird …now that’s Halloween!
