EVERYONE loves a parade, right? Maybe not, as one long time reader hinted last week – it (the Halloween Parade) was really (over)crowded last year (2022). Well actually she said it was a ( )show, expletive deleted. Which I couldn’t help thinking might also apply to Saturday’s event on The Oval, given the stroller gridlock. Of course maybe I’m hearkening back to a time when there were fewer towers and LIC still seemed like a small neighborhood. I like to hearken, and those days may have passed, but there’s still no lack of need for the next generation to take up the reins and build on what their forefathers from a decade ago built on. Right now we seem to be on cruise control.
As for worries about Halloween artwork on the Paragon Paint Building having a limited lifespan, I’m not so sure. Mainly due to my previous doubts about new proposed zoning plans for LIC having a big impact. As well as the possibility of this particular parcel being given approval for upsizing without its being incorporated into the whole Anable Basin plan. Either way, all development will first and foremost be subject to the economic cycle going forward. Which may mean a reprieve for the clown of Vernon Boulevard.
As for development currently being undertaken, it continues to be viewable in all its glory on 48th Avenue. The trailers keep coming and going and staying in the center lane a month after we published our expose. A reader sent us pics of the recent damage to the road as a reminder, but it seems permit or not there’s nothing residents can do to halt this practice. Yeah, it’s time for the next generation to step up. As for development not being undertaken, that would continue to describe The Bane of Hunters Point, three months after we published that expose. Where is our local councilwoman on these issues, certainly not in LIC.
//MARATHON SUNDAY is here. The weather is looking perfect, for spectators anyway. So I’m going to once again give your family a way to save $10k by recommending you do not miss this event. It does not happen in Soho, Tribeca, Astoria or Flushing, we are blessed to have it right at our doorstep in LIC, be there!
5Pointz Artwork Lives on in Spooky Queens Afterlife, But Its Days Are Numbered – hmm, but that number could be 4-figures
Why Run The NYC Marathon When You Can Drive It? – maybe do neither and just hang in LIC
