THE list is out, and Long Island City’s ‘Meju’ is now on it! We’re talking about the Michelin Guide and it’s vaunted stars, one of which was anointed to Meju yesterday.
What kind of food does Meju serve? Ahh, a one-word but not so simple answer: fermentation. But if you want all the details, we wrote the restaurant up when it first opened. Also, you’ll discover that this is not the first Michelin go-round for the owner, Chef Hooni Kim, who also lives in Long Island City!
Sadly, it also was the end of the Michelin road for Meju’s neighbor on 49th Avenue, as Casa Enrique did not retain its star this year since first being added to the list in 2014. No reason given for the omission, there never is, so I’ll just assume the Michelin quota is one restaurant per block.
